BB-593 Highway to the Reich II
by Timothy Burgess, HttR II, 74.5 hrs, 6 players, Game, Some gaming
Highway to the Reich - a massive, detailed simulation of Operation Market Garden, the World War II gamble to cross the Rhein River at Arnhem, Holland and end the War in the Fall of 1944. This campaign is a classic one of over-reaching, missed opportunities and tactical bravery offset by operational errors and strategic mistakes. Can you and your colleagues do better? Highway to the Reich is a four map game, with a long thin stem of the eponymous highway leading to the Rhein and Maas/Waal River bridges that are the key objectives of the campaign. And those bridges named the classic book (and movie) on this effort, "A Bridge Too Far." Four to Six players are needed, commanding each of the Allied Airborne Divisions (1st (Br), 82nd (US) and 101st (US)), Allied Ground forces and the polyglot German defenders trying to cut them off from that final bridge. Units are Infantry battalions, support companies and armored platoons, with detailed supply formation and cohesion rules. Players do not have to have played the game before, but that is helpful. You are also not required to commit to the entire weekend. We will try to adapt to bringing in commanders and reassigning their units as needed.

CC-658 Perpetual Magic
by Martin Toggweiler, Magic: The Gathering, 2 hrs, 12 players, Game, Knows it
Think you need to amass an expensive card collection to play competitive Magic? Think again. Perpetual Magic is a format where all you need is five boosters and some basic land to create what could already be a powerful mage. Once you've prepared your mage, you're ready to step into P-Space, a dimension of adventure, populated with countless adversaries wielding magicks that may come from any plane or era of the long and storied history of the Magic Multiverse, and they're itching to put you to the test. Defeat them and they must yield some bit of their power to you in the form of a card; fail to face them down and it is you who must bestow a prize upon them. What card you decide to yield or take can be as important as how well you fight the duel. The Perpetual Code allows you to protect from loss those cards that are most precious to you. For your mage to thrive, keen judgment is important: yielding an excessively powerful card to protect a mediocre one, means that card won't be available later as an offer to protect a card that is more vital to you. Since most cards won or lost will come from a mage's sideboard, the structure of P-Space makes it possible for the decks of all mages to improve with play. However, there are no guarantees, and the path to glory may conceal some nasty twists of fate. A real adventure can't be had without some threat of danger, but it is that very threat which infuses victories with their greatest sweetness. Play whenever and as often as you like, create new mages when you so choose, the fun and adventure can truly be perpetual. May we anon face one another across the battleground! P-Magic rules available at: http://mtoggweiler.tripod.com/pmagic.html

In Washington’s War, you assume the role of either: The King of Great Britain as he tries to bring his rebellious colonies back into the Empire, while at the same time dealing with a global war against ancient enemies bent on revenge for their losses in the Seven Years War; OR The Continental Congress as they battle the forces of Britain, while trying to rally their countrymen to the cause of liberty. Washington’s War features a dice-driven combat system that quickly resolves combat and features a CDG discard mechanic that enables a player to play a discarded event for the cost of an operations card. Beginner's welcome but please read the rules in advance. Single Elimination Tournament with 2-hours per round. A copy of the game is required.

The Battle of Alesia or Siege of Alesia took place in September, 52 BC around the Gallic oppidum of Alesia, a major town centre and hill fort of the Mandubii tribe. It was fought by an army of the Roman Republic commanded by Julius Caesar, aided by cavalry commanders Mark Antony, Titus Labienus and Gaius Trebonius, against a confederation of Gallic tribes united under the leadership of Vercingetorix of the Averni, and was the last major engagement between Gauls and Romans, marking the turning point of the Gallic Wars in favour of Rome. The Siege of Alesia is considered one of Caesar's greatest military achievements, and is still one of the classic examples of siege warfare and circumvallation. We will use the Armchair Brigade SGBoH rules.

FB-592 Fighting Formations
by Kai Jensen, 7 hrs, 2 players, Demo, Some gaming
Fighting Formations (FF) is a series of wargames covering WWII tactical combined-arms combat at the platoon and squad levels. Each game in the series will feature a distinct combat unit, highlighting battles in which that unit participated as well as its particular order of battle and fighting characteristics. In each scenario, one player will take command of elements of this featured unit while the other assumes control of the opposing forces. These two players will alternate giving orders, activating their units on the map for various military functions. Players attempt to achieve victory by moving their combat units across the game map to attack their opponent’s units and to achieve as many scenario objectives as possible. The degree to which a player succeeds or fails is measured by a scenario’s specific victory conditions—be it the destruction of enemy units, the taking of vital mapboard objectives, or the exiting of friendly units off the opponent’s map edge. Each game turn is divided into ten orders, with each player performing a variable number of these orders. In each turn, the sequence of play is fluid – with orders being given by the active player and reactions being taken by both players – depending upon the relative initiative level at any given moment.

FC-660 Perpetual Magic
by Martin Toggweiler, Magic: The Gathering, 2 hrs, 12 players, Game, Knows it
Think you need to amass an expensive card collection to play competitive Magic? Think again. Perpetual Magic is a format where all you need is five boosters and some basic land to create what could already be a powerful mage. Once you've prepared your mage you're ready to step into P-Space, a dimension of adventure, populated with countless adversaries wielding magicks that may come from any plane or era of the long and storied history of the Magic Multiverse, and they're itching to put you to the test. GE-545 Battlestar Galactica--New Caprica or Bust!
by Mike Hutchinson, Battlestar Galactica, 7 hrs, 6 players, Game, Tried it, Character and/or Armies Supplied
Come and play the thrilling cooperative board game based on the fantastic Sci-Fi Channel TV show Battlestar Galactica. In the game, you will take the part of one of the characters from the show. But unlike on the show...ANYONE might be a Cylon. While all the players are supposed to work together to save the Human race, at least some of us will be Sleeper Agent Cylons trying to doom humanity. With the "Pegasus" expansion for the BSG board game there are a few changes to the game as a whole. There are many new characters. It is now possible to play as a Cylon Leader. The Pegasus Battlestar has her own game board. And the game now ends with a battle on New Caprica, where Cylons and Humans battle in the streets. So, yes, we will be playing with the Pegasus expansion. We may play more than one game in the time allotted. We may also try out my homemade BSG tournament/league scoring system, if all the players are amenable. There may also be prizes. We'll see what happens. Overall, I prefer experienced players (or players who have at least read the rules at home or online before playing) for my games. Things flow a lot better with players who have some idea about the game beforehand. If you're a fan of the TV show, that's always a plus--as it makes the situations of the game easier to understand. If I get enough beginner players, I may use the first hour (or a portion of it) to run a demonstration of the game.
GE-558 Arkham Horror: Innsmouth Horror
by Cedric Chin, Arkham Horror, 7 hrs, 8 players, Game, Newcomers, Character and/or Armies Supplied
Of all the cities found in H.P. Lovecraft’s vision of Massachusetts, perhaps none is quite so deadly as the small fishing village of Innsmouth. Decrepit and dying, Innsmouth is being consumed from within by an ancient pact once made to save the town. The investigators will find every hand turned against them as they explore its rotting docks and fetid beaches. In the end, perhaps the only way to save Innsmouth is by destroying it along with the terrible creatures that haunt its waters near Devil Reef. Innsmouth Horror introduces several new game concepts to the Arkham Horror board game, including Personal Stories unique to each investigator as well as the Innsmouth Look. The town of Innsmouth is hostile to the investigators, and they may well find themselves thrown in jail and fed to a Shoggoth while they search the town for evidence to call in the Feds. However, leaving Innsmouth to fester is a bad idea, since the Deep Ones will gather and rise, bringing with them the Ancient One. New players welcome! No experience with the base game is necessary for play.
GE-572 Dominant Species
by Chad Jensen, 4.5 hrs, 6 players, Game, Some gaming
90,000 B.C. — A great Ice Age is fast approaching. Another titanic struggle for global supremacy has unwittingly commenced between the varying animal species. Dominant Species is a game for 2 to 6 players that abstractly recreates a tiny portion of ancient history: the ponderous encroachment of an Ice Age and what that entails for the living creatures trying to adapt to the slowly-changing Earth. Each player will assume the role of one of six major Animal groups—Mammal, Reptile, Bird, Amphibian, Arachnid or Insect. Each begins the game in a state of natural balance with regards to one another. But that won’t last: It is indeed “survival of the fittest.” Through wily Action Pawn placement, players will strive to become Dominant on as many different Terrain tiles as possible in order to draw beneficial Dominance Cards. Players will also want to propagate their individual Species in order to earn Victory Points for his particular Animal. Players will be aided in these endeavors via Growth, Migration and Domination actions, among others. All of this eventually leads to the end game – the final ascent of the Ice Age – where the player with the most Victory Points will have his Animal crowned the Dominant Species. But somebody better become dominant quickly, because it’s getting mighty cold....

This event will be that battle that makes it or breaks it for the nascent Black Widows as they take on the Broadsword Legion.

The Space Marines Terminators go in loaded with powerful built-in weaponry. The Genestealers are armed with nothing except for four clawed arms able to rip through a Terminator's armor and their seemingly endless numbers. The Genestealers have no time limit, but the Space Marines have a 4 minute time limit, if the sergeant is killed then 3 minutes. This is done to simulate the fact that Genestealers move so much quicker and does add a lot of angst to the game for the Marine players. Generally all the mechanics from the game will be simulated as closely as possible. (Marine squad players will have a sign-up sheet). Sergeant player requires experience. We will use the Chinese Civil War option from the deluxe set as the default. Players that do not have the Chinese Civil War variant and do not know it may play 2nd edition rules instead. In either case, players may bid PCs for sides. Each player rolls a die. The high roller gets to choose his side preference and first bid. After that, bidding is a simple auction with the high bid taking the preferred side. Losing bidder then receives the amount of the bid in additional influence, placed after all other setup is complete, and only in countries where the player already has influence. To build a pauper prismatic highlander deck, your deck must have: At least 250 cards (including lands) At least 20 cards of each color (multicolor cards can count as any one of their colors, so a red/green/white card could count as red, or green, or white) No more than 1 copy of any card (not including basic land) ONLY COMMONS! (If a card was printed as multiple rarities, whatever rarity your copy of the card was printed as is the rarity it counts as) So dig through your draft box, pick up some commons from your friendly local gaming store, and play the biggest decks you have ever seen.

TE-613 Manifest Destiny
by Misha Wilkinson, 4.5 hrs, 10 players, Game, Some gaming, Character and/or Armies Supplied
Manifest Destiny is a card-driven multi-player strategy game for 3 to 5 players set in North America from colonial times to the present. Designed by Bill Crenshaw as the successor to the Age of Renaissance, and developed by Ken Gutermuth, Manifest Destiny combines the strategic components of earlier, longer civilization-based games with the elegance of streamlined European gaming. While reminiscent of its predecessors in some respects, it is significantly simpler and quicker to play. Designed to appeal to a wide range of gamers, Manifest Destiny combines several unique elements that require strategic balancing to succeed. Each player controls a mercantile empire as it expands into territories containing new markets across the continent. Players use cash to purchase Progressions and tokens. Progressions give players additional capabilities during the game. Tokens are used for territorial expansion and to purchase Pioneers, cities and additional cards. Each game is unique -- there is no standard path to victory. The game has several elements that keep all players competitive -- cards and Progressions are designed to assist lagging players. How you balance the competing opportunities will determine whether you achieve your destiny.

TR-533 Here Be Dragons
by Shannon J.E. McNamara, Cthulhu Dark Ages, 7 hrs, 5 players, Game, Newcomers, Character and/or Armies Supplied
878 A.D. The Kingdom of Wessex. The dragon banners of King Alfred have defeated the Viking/Danish forces at Ethandun, making their leader, Guthrum the Unlucky, bend the knee and receive baptism as a sign of his goodwill. Wessex was fortunate to have won Ethandun as it was a close battle. If they had lost then Wessex likely would have turned into a Danish colony and Alfred’s dream of a united England (which still didn’t exist at the time) would have never been. During this peaceful time a group of fledgling investigators are given leave to go on holiday. One of the investigators has an invitation to a village wedding and he’s gracious enough to invite the other investigators along. But holidays aren’t always what they’re expected to be and dark forces could be at work that make certain Alfred’s dream of a united England never come to fruition. This is an introductory adventure for Cthulhu Dark Ages. Those unfamiliar with Cthulhu should consider it something of the opposite of Dungeons & Dragons. Think gritty investigators up against horrors that are usually defeated with cunning. Brawn will usually get you killed. This game contains mature themes.

by Rachel Tevlin, Mutants and Masterminds (2nd Ed.), 4.5 hrs, 6 players, Game, Some gaming, Character and/or Armies Supplied

Rumors place him (or her, no one knows for sure) in India, China, even in South Africa. However a request from Triumph Inc. suggests otherwise. They have recruited you to be part of a search and possible rescue team. Your mission: Find "The Facade" and return him his cell in New Alcatraz. Of course, you may have other plans... GM's Note: This game takes place in the "Brave New World" universe as imagined by Matt Forbeck and originally published by Pinnacle Entertainment Group. WH-522 Quatra Bra
by Shaun Frost, Battle for Empire, 7 hrs, 8 players, Game, Some gaming
Refight the battle of Quatre Bras in 15mm using a modified Battles for Empire rule set. Can Marshal Ney take Quatre Bras from the clutches of the Duke of Wellington? Only you can decide. Refight this grand battle in control of the Brunswich Corp, the Dutch-Belgian Division, the Hanoverian Brigade, the British Guard or maybe the 6th Division under Prince Jerome Bonaparte, the Imperial Guard Light Cavalry or even the II French Corp under General Reille. This is a new game with limited play testing, we are looking to develop this game into a recurring battle and need your help to ensure it is balanced. Currently it’s historically correct, but that may not always be playable and enjoyable. So come on by, take charge of a Brigade and help the French push the allies out of Quatre Bras.

Will Professor Murai, Police Detective Shindo and his sister Naoko be able to help the military defeat the gargantuan monsters destroying Kyushu? Based on the classic kaiju Gojira (Godzilla) movies from the 50's and 60's, play will alternate between the battle of the monsters (yes you get to play Godzilla or another kaiju monster) and the role-playing and problem solving of the "main characters". (Events at one scale will affect outcomes of the other.) This is certainly not your normal "super heroes" game! Children welcome with the caveat that this is a complex and serious RPG.
